I WOULD LIKE TO SHOW AND TELL ABOUT MY BUTTON COLLECTION.. THIS IS JUST A FEW OF THEM IN SPECIAL ROUND GLASS JARS WITH LIDS ON BOTTOM.. I COLLECT THESE JARS ALSO BUT THEY ARE VERY HARD TO FIND.
I STARTED COLLECTING IN ABOUT 1990 WHILE LIVING IN MICHIGAN.. I FOUND THE LARGEST JAR AT A GARAGE SALE AND IMMEDIATELY KNEW WHAT I WANTED TO DO WITH IT.
I PUT MY ANTIQUE PEARL SHELL BUTTONS IN IT AS SOON AS I GOT HOME. A PLAN WAS BORN THEN TO START COLLECTING THE JARS TO USE AS MY BUTTON COLLECTION.
I ALREADY HAD A START ON THE BUTTONS AND WHEN MY DAUGHTERS AND I WOULD GO ON OUR SATURDAY GARAGE SALE VENTURES, WE WOULD ALWAYS LOOK FOR EITHER THE JARS OR BUTTONS OR BOTH.. IF I DIDN'T SEE ANY BUTTONS OUT I WOULD ALWAYS ASK IF THEY HAD ANY BUTTONS. THAT USUALLY STARTED A CONVERSATION ABOUT MY COLLECTING THEM. WE WERE JUST ABOUT READY TO WIND THIS TRIP DOWN AND HEAD FOR HOME, WHEN WE SAW ANOTHER SALE AND PULLED IN.. JOSH, MY LITTLE THREE YEAR OLD GRANDSON WENT UP TO THE HOUSE WITH US AND SINCE I DIDN'T ASK ABOUT BUTTONS RIGHT AWAY,,, HE SAYS IN THIS TINY VOICE.. " DO YOU HAVE ANY BUTTONS ?" MY DAUGHTER AND I JUST CRACKED UP LAUGHING.. UNFORTUNATELY THE LADY DIDN'T HAVE ANY BUTTONS BUT JOSHIE'S LITTLE QUESTION JUST PUT THE FINAL TOUCH ON A GOOD DAY.. JOSH IS NOW 17 YEARS OLD AND TO THIS DAY WE LAUGH ABOUT HIS CUTE LITTLE "BUTTON-BUYING" EXPERIENCE. HE WAS A JOY TO TAKE ALONG...
HERE ARE A FEW MORE IN BLUE MASON FRUIT JARS AND SOME ODD SHAPED OVAL JARS WITH CORK LIDS.. I ALWAYS LOOK FOR ODD SHAPED JARS FOR MY BUTTONS. THESE ARE SITTING ON TOP OF MY HUTCH IN THE DINING ROOM. OH YES, YOU WILL FIND MY BUTTON COLLECTION THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE HOUSE.
ONE LAST PICTURE OF AN ANTIQUE COOKIE JAR FOR MY LARGER WOODEN BUTTONS..I LOVE THEM AND USE THEM ON MY PRIMITIVE DOLLS CLOTHING.. IT JUST ADDS TO THE PRIM LOOK WHEN YOU ADD AN OLD WOODEN BUTTON TO THE NECK OR ON A POCKET.
I HOPE YOU HAVE ENJOYED SEEING MY HOBBY OF BUTTON COLLECTING. DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS ABOUT A BUTTON BUT
"I NEVER MET A BUTTON I DIDN'T LIKE"
HAPPY BLOGGIN'

I love the buttons girl...Helen gave me an old blue mason jar full of old ones! Hope you had a great New Year...I can't wait to see what it brings!
I have a very SMALL collection compared to yours. This Christmas I got out a jar and let the kids pick a few special buttons to put on their cousin's presents we made them ( scrapbooked boxes that we personalized with their names and filled with cookies ) The kids LOVED looking through my buttons to find the best ones to use. I hope I pass button collecting down to them too... it is a great hobby! Love your collection Maurine!
Great collection....and the jars are just beautiful. I loved reading about how you got them.
You have them displayed nicely too.
