REMEMBER WHEN ??

Now that we've just come through the hectic holidays and just had time to catch a breath, I think it's time to "set back" and relax and reminisce about somethin' relaxin'..

Now I know none of you will admitt to this ... but... remember when....

Monday's was just naturally " wash day", and there was no gettin' around it.. No easy job either.. No water heaters in the house to jest turn a little knob and get scaldin' hot water for your white clothes... first...

No sir, you had this big old # 3 black iron kettle out in the back yard and you got you kindlin' all ready and put up where it wouldn't get wet if'n it happened to come a shower in the night.. next you put your first buckets of water in the iron kettle and put your wood under it and lit your fire for heatin' the washin water. You pumped up your water from a iron pump with a ..handle that gave you water ... if you had the strength to "pump it". now sometimes the "leather" in the pump would get dried out and you'd have to " prime" it with a little water..

What... you don't know what " prime" is??? Lawdee me, girl.. Ok it was ... you pour a little water down in the pump to soak the leather until it would swell up and then you'd begin to get water.. mind you the first was sorta nasty tastin' .. yep, I've had a drink or two of that stuff... spit it out...fast !!

Reason I know all this is I was one of the kids who had to pump the wash water... not only one tub for washin' in but two more for the rinsing and for white clothes you had a third tub where Mama would take a little blue ball and tie it in the corner of a piece of muslin or an old worn out bedsheet...and that was your " ball-bluing" and you'd rinse it up and down a few times in the third tub of rinse water till the water turned a pretty bright blue.. this was for rinsin' your white clothes in to make them real white and when you hung 'em on the clothesline, the sun did the bleachin' for ya'.

I know, I know you can't wait to jump in on this fascinatin' story but it's the actual truth.. and it was a hard days work.. Then Mama would take the washin' tub of water and pour on the wooden back porch and scrub it tersely with a broom.. Clean back porch was Mama's pride and joy...

This was what you looked forward to ever' Monday morning bright and early.. The woman who had her clothes on the line first was the most respected woman down in the country.. My Mama was most always the first... We were a proud family down on the farm..

Next time it'll be "TUESDAY" ironing day !!! Flat irons heated on wood cook stove..!!

CHANGE IS GOOD , NOT !!

They say "change is good " but if you are changing internet providers, not good.!!
I made it just fine until I started trying to change my email address..
Oh my aching head !! Ok first I have this simple easy to remember email address to change to... well, it went fair until I tried to change my paypal email address..... I didn't believe this at first.. but it's true !!
Paypal had a customer from Illinois with the same last name as mine and with the same company.. NO IT CAN'T BE TRUE !!
Well, we went around and round over that one.. so I settled with a different one... one that I was sure NO ONE in the world would have one like..
So I sent out alllllllll these emails to different people and companies with this new " fool proof" address.
Nobody answered until Miss Donna figured it out for me.. Bless you Donna. I had to use the email address as was my member I.D.
sssoooooooooo to all who would like to know... my new email address is:

huffines82@att.net
so everbody please send me a sweet , comforting email and if I get it I'll bless you all day long.
My fingers are in a cramped typing shape from being on computer all day yesterday and into the wee hours of the night.. working with this change that is supposed to be GOOD !!

Happy Bloggin'

OH NO !! NOT ICE STORMS AND SNOW !!!

I tried putting a hex on this white stuff that's floating in the air.. and even worse the frozen rain... yuk!!! It just hasn't worked.. The ground is covered..
Should I get out my " long-johns" and run for bread, milk and munchies or just bundle up and hybernate until it's over.. If I can endure many winters in Michigan, surely I can bear this one.. Look on the bright side.. the neighbors can't see my leaves in the yard...

I thought about making a craft today and I did go so far as to print out a new pattern on card stock and cut it out for templates. So maybe I'll get it done by " next year"...

Has everyone finished their Christmas shopping ??? I have.. sent money today.. Also sent a gallon of shelled pecans. for each family.... that should please everyone, don't you think !! I can see it now... fudge, pecan pies, chocolate chip cookies... yummy.!!!
Had an invitatiion to go spend Christmas with family in Atlanta but declined.. Now if it were summer and I could go see a Braves Ballgame, that would be great... Yes , I'm a Braves Fan.. They need all they can get.. but I'm loyal..

well , guess that's about all the nonsense I can think of tonight.. If you don't hear from me for a few days,, you can say "Maurine's snowed in !!"

MERRY CHRISTMAS
and

OUR FAMILY PHOTO BOX

I would like to show a precious gift that my sister made for me for a birthday a few years ago.. She secretly took a box of old family pictures and took them to work with her and copied all the pictures onto white copy paper.. She then cut them out in different sizes and pasted them onto the box.. She then put an adhesive all over it..
The pictures are inside the box and inside the lid and on the bottom of the box.. She literally covered every tiny place on the inside and outside , bottom and top..

This was truly a labor of love and I will treasure it for the rest of my life and I will pass it down to my children . It will be a link to the past for all my family to enjoy.

The picture does not do justice to the peice of family history.
I love and treasure it..
