A CHAPTER IN THE LIFE OF MAURINE

~~~~~~~~
Someone told me Sunday that if you put mothballs around your house it would discourage snakes... so today i buy some mothballs..
We mowed the yard and got it neat and later I went out with my mothballs.. box in hand and ready for the little demons...
I put some in the patio at the edge of wooden fence...
on I go near carport... sprinkle, sprinkle ...
then I go under the carport , next to entrance to laundry room...
then I'm going around to the front of house and
.....EEEEEKKKKKK !!!
" IS  THAT WHAT i THINK IT IS..... YES, IT IS... A SNAKE WITH SOMETHING IN HIS MOUTH !!!
So I run for the hoe,  (which I keep handy, just in case.... )
I get my hoe and start to go back around and then I think... NO, MAURINE ,, YOU CAN'T DO THAT !!!
So, I yell for my neighbor...
" DENNY..... DENNY....
LOUDER...
DENNY, DENNY...
oh RATS !!!  RATS !!
Guess I'll have to do it myself !!
So I creep to the corner of the house and .... yep.. he's still there .. in same spot...
I creep up a little..  hoe in hand, I lean way out and
WHACK !!  RATS I missed him....
a little closer ....WHACK !!
  DANG,!!!  missed him again !!
Somethings funny here, he hasn't moved...
a little closer and   WHACK !! YEAH !! i HIT HIM...
He still hasn't moved...
I said "" Hmmmmm... snake are you dead??
so I get real brave and inch up real close and ... sure enough ..
HE'S  DEAD !!!
i wanta be sure  tho'  , WHACK...!!  WHACK !! WHACK !
Cut him in two..
Yep !! He's Dead !!
so I get him on the hoe and carry him out to our
SNAKE CEMETERY.
BURIAL  TOMORROW AFTERNOON
( when I quit shaking and can dig a deeeeep  hole )
WOW..You are 1 brave Lady but I guess I would do the same thing to protect my Dogs...They have special stuff called "Snake Away" and it is sulfer and Moth balls but it is very pricey. Just remember to do it again after it rains as the rain kills the smell. We buy our Moth balls at dollar tree and crush them so they spread better. Much cheaper than WM and they are a smaller box but if you compare the weight...they are still cheaper.
I do NOT like snakes and that is just one of the many reasons I can't wait to get out of here. Cunting the days and trying to sell a lot so I can save up..shooting for end of October. Kepp your fingers crossed and say a special prayer for me (and my dogs)
I have such a snake phobia that would have prevented me from going outdoors until someone came along to get rid of that snake! You are much braver than I!!!
I used to send my son out to check under the clotheslines before I'd hang out clothes..how bad is that?!! lol
Snakes and I do not get along. However, if they aren't poisonouse, I don't touch them and even protect them. Why? Well, we have a 1-acre pond literally in our backyard----full of water moccasins---oh yeah. The other snakes (especially the king snakes) LOVE to eat them. So, it's all out warfare on water moccasins and the other snakes are safe (well, every now and then a water snake gets taken out, but they look so much like their deadly cousins).
Smiles~
Marilyn
PS. Did I also mention we also have a swamp in our back-backyard? Full of snakes!
You are too funny, Maurine~ I actually ignore the snakes around our house. They are harmless and eat lots of bugs. Have a wonderful week, my friend.
hugs,
Pam
I am also terrified of snakes. Back in the early 80's we had quite a few of the garden variety on our property. My next door neighbor's 13 year old son knew of my paranoia so he came over and cut one particularly long snake in half......and out came dozens of baby snakes!!! All ALIVE.....EEEEEKKKK. I still shudder thinking about them.
